Police Raid Minor Weddings in Yavniel, Arrest 16

Dozens of police officers raided several locations in Yavniel on Thursday morning, detaining 16 minors and adults for questioning. The arrests are part of an ongoing investigation into underage marriages within a small, closed community in the Lower Galilee town. Suspects are believed to have recently married or were preparing for illegal wedding ceremonies.

The operation is the latest in a months-long investigation targeting the phenomenon of child marriages. Several weeks ago, over 20 other individuals were detained in Yavniel on suspicion of involvement in such marriages.

According to police, these ceremonies often occur in the morning with a limited attendance, and the location is not disclosed until the event begins. Photography is frequently prohibited, and attendees are sometimes asked to surrender their phones to prevent documentation of the weddings. A separate event, disguised as an engagement party, sometimes follows the religious ceremony for the relatives of the bride and groom.

Police stated that the investigation is continuing in cooperation with law enforcement and welfare authorities. The goal is to uncover the truth, prosecute those involved, and prevent the continuation of this practice.
