Dozens of Breslov Hasidim Detained at Ben Gurion Airport Ahead of Rosh Hashanah

Dozens of Breslov Hasidim attempting to travel to Uman for Rosh Hashanah have been detained at Ben Gurion Airport in recent weeks. Some of those detained had outstanding military draft orders. The Israel Airports Authority reported that security personnel apprehended six passengers attempting to leave the country illegally. Two were detained at Terminal 1 and four at Terminal 3. All six were transferred to the Population and Immigration Authority. Investigations revealed that they had outstanding draft orders preventing their departure from Israel. Additionally, several Hasidim were detained at the Taba border crossing while attempting to reach Uman via Egypt and then Europe. These detentions occur as thousands of Hasidim traditionally travel to Uman for pilgrimage to the grave of Rabbi Nachman during the Rosh Hashanah holiday.
