Debrecen Targets Bnei Sakhnin Top Scorer Ahmed Salman
Hungarian club Debrecen is interested in signing 22-year-old Ahmed Salman, Bnei Sakhnin’s top scorer this season, according to a first report by Sport 5. The club followed him throughout the campaign, and he could potentially join former Maccabi Netanya player Rotem Keller at Debrecen.
Salman had a strong season with six goals and three assists. He played as a winger in a back-three setup for part of the year, but was also deployed as a striker and as a second forward. Those different roles drew praise from Sakhnin coaches Sharon Mimer and Yossi Abukasis.
Salman began his senior career five years ago at Hapoel Jerusalem, where he was a regular starter. That summer he was also part of Israel’s team under coach Ofir Haim that reached the UEFA Under-19 European Championship final before losing to England. He scored against Serbia and started alongside Oscar Gloukh, Tai Abed and Dor Turgeman, all of whom now play abroad.
In January of the following year, Salman was bought by Maccabi Netanya for 1 million shekels and stayed there for 18 months. About two years ago, when Sahar Taji moved to Netanya, Salman went in the opposite direction. Bnei Sakhnin has rarely sold players abroad, with only a few exceptions over the years, including Hassan Kilu, Ihab Ghanem, Anis Pohrat Ayash and Osama Khalaila.
