IDF Prepares to Reopen Erez Crossing Despite Netanyahu's Denial

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz announced on Thursday that there is no directive to reopen the Erez Crossing for goods. However, the Israel Defense Forces have been preparing for the crossing's reopening on September 1, following heavy American pressure and with approval from the National Security Council. These preparations have involved the Southern Command and the Ministry of Defense upgrading infrastructure around the crossing, including road construction and renovation, all under close supervision by the American command center in Kiryat Gat (CMCC).

Last Friday, the German Deputy Defense Minister visited Israel to inaugurate a new scanning facility at the Erez Crossing, which was purchased by the German government. This development underscores international involvement in the crossing's operations and the strategic importance of the site amid regional security considerations.
