Israeli Security Prepares to Reopen Erez Crossing for Goods Amid US Pressure

The Israeli security establishment is preparing to reopen the Erez Crossing exclusively for the entry of goods, with a tentative target date set for September 1, 2026. Although final approval has not yet been granted, preparations are underway to allow the crossing to resume operations next week. A security source told N12 that the request to reopen the crossing originated from the United States several months ago as part of implementing phase two of President Donald Trump's 20-point plan for Gaza.

This development comes amid increased American pressure on Israel to advance to the next stage in Gaza, while Israeli officials continue to insist on the disarmament of Hamas as a precondition for progress. Recent weeks have seen "difficult talks" between Israeli representatives and the US administration regarding the continuation of the process. Israeli Defense Chief Aviv Kochavi reiterated Israel's firm stance, stating, "In Gaza, we do not give up on the ultimate goal, the disarmament of the Gaza Strip and Hamas."
