Trump Says Iran Deal Is Signed, Signals Talks With Hezbollah on Lebanon

President Donald Trump said the agreement with Iran has been fully signed, while a senior U.S. official stressed that an Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon is not a condition of the deal and that Israel retains full self-defense rights. Washington officials said a formal memorandum of understanding has already been signed by Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance, and Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf.

Trump said, “The deal with Iran is fully signed. The strait is open, Iran will not have nuclear weapons.” He added that the text would be released “a little after the signing on Friday,” and insisted that Tehran will receive nothing before meeting its commitments: “Iran will not get anything until it does what it needs to do.” He also said sanctions will stay in place until Iran acts, but argued the deal could lower oil prices and lift stock markets, bringing crude back toward prewar levels.

On Lebanon, a senior U.S. official said Israel’s pullout from southern Lebanon is not part of the agreement and warned that if Hezbollah attacks, “Israel has the right to self-defense and to respond.” Trump said he wants a diplomatic solution there too, saying, “I hope we can also solve the situation in Lebanon. It is something that never ends. We need to talk with Hezbollah about this.”

A Hezbollah source told Reuters that Israel “will not have freedom of movement in Lebanon.” The source said the group has carried out no activity since the U.S.-Iran deal was announced and that its position depends on how Israel implements the agreement.
