Yair Netanyahu Demands Criminal Probe Into Haaretz Journalist Over Alleged Assassination Attempt

Yair Netanyahu, son of the Israeli Prime Minister, has formally requested a criminal investigation against Haaretz journalist Uri Misgav. He claims Misgav's reports revealing his location and security arrangements in Miami aided Iranian operatives in locating him and attempting an assassination. The request was submitted on Wednesday through Netanyahu's lawyer, Uriel Hor Nazari, to Israel Police Commissioner Major General Danni Levi.

The letter alleges that based on Misgav's publications, Iranian intelligence agents physically reached Netanyahu's Miami residence and carried out a sudden, targeted assassination attempt. Netanyahu's legal team is urging authorities to investigate serious offenses including aiding an enemy during wartime, intentionally providing information to harm state security, endangering life, and violating privacy. The head of Shin Bet and the Attorney General have also been asked to intervene and initiate a probe.

The controversy centers on Misgav's 2023 and recent reports detailing Netanyahu's whereabouts in Florida and the presence of Shin Bet security personnel. The letter also references a report about a flight on which Yair and Sara Netanyahu were supposed to return to Israel from Miami. Misgav has rejected the accusations, calling them baseless and inconsistent with information indicating Netanyahu remained in Miami after the alleged assassination attempt and flight.

The case highlights ongoing tensions between Netanyahu and the media, with legal and security implications involving alleged Iranian intelligence threats on U.S. soil.
