Yair Netanyahu Accuses Haaretz Journalist of Aiding Iranian Assassination Attempt

Yair Netanyahu, son of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has accused Haaretz journalist Uri Misgav of publishing information that allegedly helped Iranian intelligence locate him in Miami and attempt to assassinate him. On August 26, 2026, Yair Netanyahu sent a letter to Israel Police Commissioner Danni Levi demanding a criminal investigation against Misgav. The letter claims that Misgav’s reports revealing Yair Netanyahu’s location and security arrangements enabled Iranian agents to reach his Miami residence and carry out a targeted assassination attempt.

The letter, submitted through Yair Netanyahu’s lawyer Uriel Hor Nazari, accuses Misgav of multiple offenses including "aiding the enemy in wartime," "intentionally endangering state security," and "severe breach of privacy." It also calls for intervention by the head of Shin Bet and the State Attorney to ensure an investigation is opened. The complaint references social media posts by Misgav from 2023 that disclosed Netanyahu’s presence in a guarded apartment in Hallandale Beach, Florida, and a report about a flight in February 2023 involving Yair and Sara Netanyahu.

This demand follows several previous legal actions Yair Netanyahu has taken against Misgav, including failed harassment restraining order requests and a recent court ruling ordering Yair Netanyahu to pay Misgav 5,900 shekels for filing a defamation suit in an improper jurisdiction. Meanwhile, Misgav filed a complaint against broadcaster Yinon Magal for incitement after Magal called him a "snitch" and accused him and his associates of actions that could have led to murder.

In response, Misgav criticized Yair Netanyahu and his family for repeatedly losing legal battles and described the assassination claims as "fake." He urged authorities not to waste resources on what he called "baseless complaints," emphasizing that security forces have enough real threats to handle.
