Yair Netanyahu Accuses Haaretz Journalist of Aiding Iranian Assassination Attempt

Yair Netanyahu, son of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has accused Haaretz journalist Uri Misgav of publishing information that allegedly helped Iranian intelligence locate him in Miami and attempt to assassinate him. On August 26, 2026, Yair Netanyahu sent a letter to Israel Police Commissioner Danni Levi demanding a criminal investigation against Misgav. The letter claims that Misgav's reports revealing Yair Netanyahu's location and security arrangements enabled Iranian operatives to physically reach his Miami residence and carry out a sudden targeted assassination attempt.

The letter, submitted through Yair Netanyahu's lawyer Uriel Hor Nazari, accuses Misgav of multiple offenses including "aiding the enemy in wartime," intentionally endangering state security, reckless endangerment of life, and violating the privacy of protected individuals. Netanyahu also called on the head of the Shin Bet security service and the Attorney General to intervene and open an investigation.

The complaint references social media posts by Misgav from 2023 that disclosed Netanyahu's stay at a residence in Hallandale Beach, Florida, guarded by two Shin Bet agents, as well as a report about a flight in February 2023 on which Yair and Sara Netanyahu were supposed to travel from Miami to Israel. This latest legal move follows several previous unsuccessful lawsuits and harassment injunction requests filed by Yair Netanyahu against Misgav, including a recent court order requiring Netanyahu to pay Misgav 5,900 shekels for filing a defamation suit in an improper jurisdiction.

In response, Uri Misgav criticized Yair Netanyahu and his family for repeatedly failing in their legal actions against him and accused them of wasting police and Shin Bet resources with baseless complaints. Misgav also highlighted that the alleged assassination attempt and urgent flight from Miami were fabricated, noting that Netanyahu remained in Miami through January and February 2023. Additionally, Misgav filed a complaint against broadcaster Yinon Magal for incitement after Magal called him a "snitch" and suggested that Netanyahu's supporters endangered his life.
