Yair Netanyahu Demands Criminal Probe into Haaretz Journalist Uri Misgav Over Security Breach Claims

Yair Netanyahu, son of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has formally requested a criminal investigation against Haaretz journalist Uri Misgav. In a letter sent on Wednesday to Israel Police Chief Dany Levi and Shin Bet head David Zini, Yair Netanyahu accused Misgav of repeatedly publishing detailed personal information about him, including his exact address in Miami and security arrangements, which allegedly enabled Iranian intelligence operatives to locate his residence and attempt an assassination.

The letter claims that Misgav obsessively disclosed Yair Netanyahu's precise locations in public places over several years, including the building name, apartment number, and floor of his Miami home. According to Yair Netanyahu, this sensitive information fell into the hands of Iranian intelligence agents, who physically arrived at his Miami residence to carry out a targeted killing attempt.

The complaint also highlights social media posts by Misgav revealing Yair Netanyahu's presence in Hallandale Beach, Florida, in 2023, along with details about his Shin Bet bodyguards. Additionally, Yair Netanyahu accuses Misgav of publishing flight details of him and his mother, Sara Netanyahu, including airline, flight numbers, and seat assignments, which he describes as obsessive surveillance and espionage against the Prime Minister's family.

Yair Netanyahu criticized Israeli law enforcement and security agencies for their alleged inaction in response to these publications, contrasting it with how they would reportedly respond if similar surveillance targeted other public figures or journalists. His letter calls for immediate criminal proceedings against Misgav to address what he terms a serious security breach endangering his life and family.

The authorities have yet to respond publicly to this demand. The case raises significant concerns about press freedom, personal security, and intelligence vulnerabilities involving high-profile Israeli figures abroad.
