A recent investigation by C14 has revealed that the food delivery app Volt is charging consumers significantly higher prices for basic grocery items compared to major supermarket chains. The price discrepancies, which exist even before factoring in delivery fees, service charges, and tips, show markups ranging from tens to hundreds of percent on everyday products.

The investigation compared prices on Volt with those offered by Mahsanot Hashuk Online, highlighting specific examples. For instance, Ben & Jerry's ice cream, priced at 18.90 shekels at Mahsanot Hashuk Online, costs 23.90 shekels on Volt. Similarly, La Creamery ice cream is 25.90 shekels versus 29.90 shekels, and Osem's borekas is 22.90 shekels compared to 28.90 shekels.

Further examples include the "Transport Vehicle" schnitzel, which is 50.90 shekels at Mahsanot Hashuk Online but 16.90 shekels on Volt, and Tivall Nuggets, priced at 31.90 shekels online versus 40.90 shekels on Volt. These figures suggest a systematic overcharging by the app, making purchases through Volt a potentially costly option for Israeli consumers already grappling with the high cost of living.

Volt responded to the allegations by stating that prices on its platform are determined solely by the businesses themselves. The company emphasized that it offers a wide selection of supermarkets with diverse products at various price points, and all prices are transparent to consumers, allowing for informed comparisons and choices.
