Israeli Forces Seal Entrances to Ramallah, Raid West Bank Town After Shooting Attack

Following a shooting incident, Israeli forces imposed significant closures around Ramallah and al-Bireh, severely disrupting civilian movement for hours, according to journalist Ahmed Ayish. Ayish reported that Israeli troops sealed the entrances to the cities after the shooting and pursuit of the perpetrator, causing residents to wait over five hours at checkpoints. Some checkpoints remained closed past midnight before partially reopening, leading to continued traffic chaos.

The journalist also detailed an Israeli raid on the town of Biddu, northwest of Jerusalem, which authorities identified as the hometown of the shooting suspect. During the raid, Israeli forces searched homes, conducted field interrogations, and arrested numerous young men. The Jerusalem Governorate reported that at least 53 young men were detained at a makeshift investigation center established in a commandeered house. Ayish described the raid as involving assaults on civilians and damage to property.

Residents of Biddu and surrounding areas are experiencing apprehension due to calls on settler platforms for movement towards the town, which is located near several settlements. Locals fear potential settler attacks, especially with the ongoing Israeli military presence and road closures within and around Biddu. Access to the 13 communities in the area is primarily through a single tunnel under Route 443; while this tunnel had not been closed as of the report, its closure would isolate the region. The closure of Qalandia checkpoint the previous night also stranded citizens in their vehicles, exacerbating morning traffic issues.
