Israeli Lawyer Aiding Palestinian Terrorists Faces Disciplinary Trial

Attorney Tamim Younes, brother of Palestinian terrorist Karim Younes who killed Israeli soldier Avi Bromberg, is set to face disciplinary proceedings after being caught smuggling messages to terrorists in prison. Younes admitted to receiving payments from the Palestinian Authority to pass notes to prisoners, claiming the messages conveyed that the terrorists' families were well. Following a complaint by the human rights organization B’Tselem, the Israeli Bar Association's Ethics Committee will hold a hearing on October 19, with potential sanctions including suspension or permanent revocation of his law license.

The Israel Prison Service had previously banned Younes from meeting with his clients after discovering Arabic notes in his possession. Younes acknowledged his involvement with the Palestinian Prisoners' Office and justified his actions as harmless. His brother Karim Younes was released in 2023 after serving 40 years for the murder of soldier Avi Bromberg.

B’Tselem CEO Shay Glick condemned Younes’s conduct, demanding severe penalties and permanent disbarment, emphasizing that lawyers aiding terrorists must face significant consequences. Although the Bar initially rejected B’Tselem's call for dismissal, a formal complaint was later filed by another party, prompting the upcoming disciplinary trial. The case highlights ongoing concerns about legal professionals facilitating communication for Palestinian prisoners involved in terrorism.
