Israeli Rabbis Strongly Oppose Joint Jewish-Christian Prayer at Western Wall on October 7

Leading rabbis Avigdor Nebenzahl and Shlomo Moshe Amar have issued a sharp letter condemning a planned joint Jewish-Christian prayer event at the Western Wall on October 7, the anniversary of the October 7 massacre. The rabbis called the event a desecration of the holy site and urged the public to avoid participating and to work toward its cancellation.

The letter, titled "To All Our Brothers in the House of Israel," emphasizes that the opposition extends not only to the main prayer plaza but also to adjacent areas including the Southern Wall and Davidson Center. The rabbis stressed that the Western Wall and its surroundings are sacred exclusively to Jewish prayer and forbade any cooperation or participation in the event with Christians.

They also clarified that no rabbinic approval was given for the event, which they described as unprecedented since the destruction of the Temple. The letter urged every Jew to distance themselves from this "desecration of the sanctuary" and to act with dedication to cancel the event for the honor of God and Torah. The rabbis concluded unequivocally that participation alongside those they consider ritually impure is unacceptable under any circumstances.
