Nazareth Resident Charged After Stealing Tel Aviv Car and Pretending to Be Its Owner

A 21-year-old man from Nazareth was indicted Monday over the theft of a car from Tel Aviv and his alleged attempt to impersonate the owner when police stopped him. Prosecutors also say the suspect was driving while under a court-ordered two-year license suspension.

According to the indictment, the vehicle was stolen from Derech Namir in Tel Aviv while the owner was working nearby on roadwork. Shortly after the theft was reported, security forces spotted the car driving in Reineh, near Nazareth.

Police moved in, blocked the vehicle and arrested the suspect. During the arrest, he allegedly tried to pass himself off as someone else and showed officers the stolen car owner’s ID card, which had been left inside the car when it was taken.

Investigators further linked him to another car theft that allegedly took place days earlier, involving a vehicle belonging to a family member. In that case, the car was reportedly abandoned after it ran out of fuel. After the investigation was completed, prosecutors filed the indictment and asked the court to keep him in custody until the end of proceedings.
