The story · English

On Wednesday evening, dozens of worshippers participated in a segregated Selichot prayer at Habima Square in Tel Aviv, organized by right-wing activist Mordechai David. The event drew a significant presence of Tel Aviv municipal inspectors and police forces, who were prepared for potential clashes. Despite most local residents largely ignoring the installation of partitions, tensions escalated during the prayer service. Some women prayed beyond the partition, prompting municipal inspectors to remove the divider, which the city stated was prohibited in public spaces. During the event, police also confiscated the loudspeaker used by David, returning it approximately half an hour later. The confrontations involved both the worshippers and law enforcement personnel throughout the evening.
