Israeli Police Raise Alert Level Ahead of 2026 Elections to Prevent Violence

With 69 days remaining until Israel's 2026 elections, the police have escalated their preparedness by raising their operational alert to "Magen 3," the second-highest level. This move reflects concerns about potential extreme scenarios during the elections, including disturbances at polling stations. Senior police officials have been instructed to map out polling sites where public order violations are more likely, especially those where threatened public officials are voting.

The police plan to deploy special units and security forces at key public and voting locations based on this early mapping. Their readiness extends beyond election day to include the aftermath, focusing on preventing any disruptions related to election results. The overarching goal is to ensure the democratic process proceeds without interference from violence or disorder.

Police Commissioner Kobi Shabtai has repeatedly emphasized that anyone attempting to undermine public security or disrupt the elections will face firm and uncompromising action from police officers, Border Police fighters, and volunteers stationed at voting centers. This comprehensive operational plan aims to safeguard the elections and maintain public order throughout the process.
