Taïm Mediterranean Chain Shuts Down in New York Amid Financial and Ownership Disputes

The story · English

The Taïm Mediterranean food chain, founded in 2005 by Israeli chef Einat Admony and once a popular name in New York, has abruptly closed all its city locations. Signs posted on the restaurant doors indicate that the properties were seized by tax authorities due to significant unpaid debts. According to New York state records, the companies operating the chain accumulated approximately $1.35 million in tax arrears, resulting in 12 liens and seizures.

This rapid collapse occurred just months after Craveworthy Brands, the holding company that acquired Taïm, announced a new licensing deal and plans for major expansion. At its peak, Taïm operated 14 outlets across the United States and reported revenues of about $18.7 million in 2025.

Pro-Palestinian and BDS activists quickly celebrated the closures on social media, attributing the downfall to the chain's former Israeli identity. However, official documents reveal that the primary causes were severe financial difficulties, tax delinquency, and an ongoing legal battle between former and current owners over responsibility for past debts. Notably, Einat Admony had already stepped away from any managerial role in the chain as of 2022.
