Israeli Prison Service Conducts Major Raids Against Crime Groups Inside Prisons and Under Electronic Monitoring

The Israeli Prison Service (IPS) recently carried out a large-scale operation targeting individuals linked to criminal organizations both inside prison facilities and among those under electronic monitoring. The coordinated raids took place simultaneously in central and northern detention centers, as well as through focused enforcement against six monitored individuals suspected of criminal ties. Elite units including 'Metzada', the Prison Police, 'Nachshon', and intelligence and enforcement teams participated in the operation.

During searches inside the prisons, authorities confiscated various illegal items such as suspected drugs, improvised stabbing weapons, and unauthorized medical pills. All seized materials were handed over for further investigation and appropriate handling. The IPS emphasized that this operation is part of an ongoing effort to reduce the influence and capabilities of criminal groups within prison walls and beyond.

This crackdown aligns with a broader governmental campaign against organized crime in Israel. Recently, police have conducted multiple actions, including a raid on a fortified compound in Nazareth linked to criminal activities, resulting in eight arrests and the seizure of large sums of money and counterfeit police equipment. The head of the National Police Operations Division, Commissioner Yigal Ben Shalom, acknowledged challenges in prosecuting organized crime without advanced technological tools.

The IPS reaffirmed its commitment to preventing illegal possession of contraband, enforcing supervision conditions, and strengthening prison governance and security. This operation complements legislative measures such as the recent Knesset law permitting electronic monitoring to prevent domestic violence, expanding enforcement capabilities against criminal elements.
