IDF Launches Major Economic Conference to Shape Haredi Sector's Future in Jerusalem
Less than a week before the major event, organizers of the "Tebuna for Economy" conference have released the final detailed schedule for the day-long summit set to influence the economic agenda of the Haredi sector. On Thursday, 7 Elul, the Binyanei HaUma convention center in Jerusalem will host a strategic and tightly planned seven-hour program starting at 3:00 PM and continuing late into the night, with each segment addressing a critical economic topic relevant to daily life in the community.
The event opens in the Teddy Lounge at 3:00 PM with a unique "Economy Avenue" exhibition featuring dynamic multimedia displays illustrating the economic lifecycle of the Haredi community, alongside networking opportunities and expert consultations. Journalist Ze'ev Aren will host an open studio for filmed personal interviews with participants. The opening is highlighted by a multidimensional mentalist performance by Meni Hollander, exploring how the brain makes financial decisions.
At 4:00 PM, the main plenary session begins in the Oranim Halls, opened by Shlomi Porush, CEO of Tebuna. The first panel, "The Economic Switch," features exclusive interviews with top Haredi government officials including Israel Ozen (Ministry of Interior), Shimi Elboum (Ministry of Jerusalem and Heritage), and Safi Zinger (Chairman of the Securities Authority), discussing economic policy, social gap reduction, and housing prospects. Benny Dreifus, CEO of Mifal HaPais, will speak on public investment in the Haredi sector.
Subsequent sessions include a keynote by Beit Shemesh Mayor Rabbi Shmuel Greenberg on household economics, a panel on economic prudence and fraud prevention with experts from the Prime Minister’s Economic Council and media, and a ceremonial recognition event honoring community leaders and charity managers. The evening features speeches by Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Leon, Mifal HaPais Chairman Itzik Lari, and Beitar Illit Mayor Meir Rubinstein, followed by a lecture on capital markets by Yossele Mintzberg.
The third panel debates the best financial strategies for preparing children’s marriages, with representatives from lending societies, community programs, investment experts, and economic coaches presenting competing approaches. Rabbi Chaim Abeles will then outline a personal economic plan for calm marriage preparations. The conference concludes with a presentation of an in-depth economic study of the Haredi sector by the Madgam Institute.
