Nahal Brigade Prepares for Next Lebanon Conflict with Intense West Bank Drill

The story · English

Nahal Brigade's 931st Battalion, fresh from operations deep in Lebanon three months ago, is now engaged in intensive operational activity in the West Bank's Ephraim Brigade area. Despite ongoing counterterrorism efforts including night arrests in Tulkarm and weapons searches in villages, the battalion is simultaneously preparing for a potential northern front conflict. This week, the battalion completed a two-day field exercise in Nahal Kana, simulating combat in the rugged terrain of southern Lebanon.

Lieutenant Colonel N, the battalion commander, described the sharp transition from daily counterterrorism in the West Bank to preparing for a future war in the north. He highlighted the evolving response to drone threats, the physical challenges posed by heat and heavy gear, and the critical importance of soldier confidence. The battalion operates daily in the Ephraim Brigade area, conducting searches, arrests, and interrogations in close coordination with the Shin Bet and police. Recent operations included discovering a pistol following reports of gunfire.

The Nahal exercise utilized terrain resembling Lebanon’s complex wadis and dense thickets, demanding detailed terrain analysis and tactical adaptation. The drill incorporated live fire, drone operations, and simulated enemy attacks, including explosive drones. Due to extreme heat, many activities were rescheduled to cooler night hours. The commander emphasized that the exercise’s greatest achievement was boosting morale and confidence in commanders, equipment, and comrades.

Addressing the significant threat posed by Hezbollah’s use of fiber-optic explosive drones, Lt. Col. N acknowledged initial army frustrations but stressed that new protocols and technological defenses have been developed. Soldiers trained with integrated systems and clear response procedures, which greatly increased their confidence. He concluded that the Nahal Brigade’s rigorous training and operational readiness are vital for success in any future conflict zone.
