Police Volunteer Guides Driver to Safety After Brake Failure on Road

תורגם ותומצת מתוך Channel 13 על ידי baba
The story · English

A young female driver lost control of her vehicle when the brakes failed during a dramatic drive, but was saved thanks to the quick thinking and professionalism of a police volunteer who guided her over the phone. The incident began with the driver experiencing severe anxiety as she found herself unable to stop the car, placing her life in danger. The situation took a positive turn when she contacted the police emergency center, where a traffic expert volunteer calmly instructed her step-by-step on how to safely bring the vehicle to a halt.

During the emergency call, the volunteer advised her to press the handbrake button and slowly lift the lever, using a gradual technique to avoid wheel lock and vehicle spin. This precise guidance successfully ended the crisis, with the relieved driver exclaiming, "He stopped it." The rapid response was provided by a specialized unit within the police traffic division's emergency center.

In an interview on the program "HaOlam HaBoker," retired Superintendent Noam Bageinsky, a senior officer and police volunteer, explained that this skilled volunteer team was established following a past disaster to offer real-time professional assistance during unusual road emergencies such as brake failure or stuck accelerator pedals. Bageinsky emphasized the critical importance of drivers recognizing the problem, acknowledging their uncertainty, and immediately calling the police. He also detailed practical steps drivers should take when brake failure occurs, highlighting the continuous pressing of the handbrake button and gentle lifting of the lever to prevent wheel lock and loss of control. His key advice to drivers facing brake failure is to "just call the police."
