Moshe Feiglin Criticizes Police Over Security Concerns for Right-Wing Conference Near Jaffa

The story · English

Moshe Feiglin, chairman of the Zehut party, claimed that the Israeli police contacted his party ahead of a planned right-wing political conference in a closed hall in Bat Yam due to its proximity to Jaffa. According to Feiglin, the police's concern was not based on any concrete intelligence or specific threat but rather on the location itself. The conference, titled "National Wake-Up Call," was set to take place indoors without any public marches or demonstrations.

Feiglin questioned why a legal political event by a Zionist party would require special security attention solely because it was near a mixed-population city like Jaffa. He contrasted this with the lack of similar police concern when centrist or left-wing parties hold events in Bat Yam or Tel Aviv, which also border Jaffa. Feiglin noted that Zehut plans to hold additional conferences in cities including Netanya, Tel Aviv, and Eilat, sarcastically suggesting that preparations should be made for Tel Aviv as well since it borders Jaffa.

He criticized the police for treating proximity to an Arab population as a security risk when Jews seek to hold political gatherings, emphasizing that if there is a threat, authorities should address the threat itself rather than restrict lawful assembly. Feiglin concluded by asserting that Zehut's right to convene anywhere in Israel is not a provocation. The Israeli police have not yet responded to these claims.
