Israeli Politician Saoul Meridor Draws Inspiration from Beitar Jerusalem Fans' Winning Spirit

The story · English

Saoul Meridor, a senior member of Gadi Eizenkot's Yashar party and a passionate Beitar Jerusalem supporter, shared his views on the club's fanbase and political outlook in an interview on the "Sari and Schlesinger" podcast. Despite political differences, Meridor emphasized the respectful relationship he maintains with fellow fans at Teddy Stadium, stating that most Beitar supporters are neither racist nor violent, countering common stereotypes about the club's fanbase. He described the fans as friends who respect differing opinions without hostility.

Meridor acknowledged issues within the fanbase, particularly criticizing the "La Familia" group for their racist and problematic behavior. However, he stressed that it is the responsibility of leadership to uphold Israeli moral values and guide the public accordingly. He lamented that current leaders are too fearful to assert these values, and called for a restoration of proper leadership.

Looking ahead to the formation of a new government, Meridor expressed confidence in securing a majority to pass significant legislation, aiming for over 61 Knesset seats. He likened this determination to the winning mentality he experiences at Beitar Jerusalem matches, where the focus is always on victory rather than settling for a draw. Meridor concluded that this spirit of uncompromising success will guide his political efforts as well.
