Maale Adumim Mayor, a Longtime Likud Supporter, Backs Religious Zionism Ahead of Elections

Maale Adumim Mayor Guy Yifrah, who has identified as a longtime Likud member, announced his intention to support the Religious Zionist Party led by Minister Bezalel Smotrich in the upcoming elections. Speaking at a city council meeting on Thursday, Yifrah emphasized his gratitude for Smotrich's efforts on behalf of Maale Adumim, stating that failing to recognize Smotrich's contributions would be "ingratitude and a lie to oneself." Despite his loyalty to Likud, Yifrah said he would actively work to strengthen the Religious Zionist Party locally and beyond, aiming to ensure it emerges as a strong force after the elections.

Yifrah explained that although he would normally campaign for Likud, his appreciation for Smotrich's work in advancing Maale Adumim compelled him to take this unusual step. He highlighted the importance of the Religious Zionist Party's strength in the next Knesset, warning it would be "absurd" if it were not a major power. Smotrich expressed his gratitude to Yifrah, praising their cooperation that has brought significant developments to Maale Adumim, including progress in the E1 area, the Life Fabric road, and tax benefits. Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich also thanked Yifrah for his warm support and wished him continued success in leading the city.
