Esther Dardik Condemns Administrative Detention of Husband Amid Hunger Strike Protest

Esther Dardik spoke to Channel 7 about her husband Tal Yinon Dardik, who is on his 32nd day of a hunger strike protesting an administrative detention order against him. She expressed deep concern for his deteriorating health and sharply criticized the legal process, claiming he is held without evidence or formal charges. Esther described the ordeal as a principled fight against what the family sees as an unjust system rather than a personal matter.

She explained that despite a court order for his release, military authorities led by Major General Avi Blot have repeatedly circumvented it, keeping Tal in detention without trial. Esther rejected state claims that alternatives to detention were offered, emphasizing that her husband refuses to give up his rights or his home in Area B of the West Bank. She said, "If someone is accused of a crime, they should be charged and tried, not imprisoned without evidence or a chance to defend themselves."

Esther also criticized the secretive nature of the legal proceedings, which she said are held behind closed doors with only one side present, and rely on undisclosed evidence that the defense cannot challenge. She described the emotional toll on their four children, including a newborn born shortly before Tal’s arrest, and the difficulty of managing the household alone. She thanked the Israeli public for their support and stressed that their struggle is broader than just her husband’s case, opposing the use of administrative detention against settlers in the West Bank without due process.

She concluded by affirming the family’s belief that the truth will eventually emerge and that they will continue fighting not only for Tal Yinon’s innocence but also for the principle that no citizen should be deprived of liberty without a fair trial.
