Tal Indforker, a 28-year-old content creator and CEO of the organization "Life on the Edge," which combats bullying and suicide among youth, has cared for her mentally ill parents since she was five. Her mother, Tzipora, suffers from schizoaffective disorder, and her father has schizophrenia. Tal recently shared her family's struggles in a heartfelt TikTok video, asking for public support.

Following the video, Tal was overwhelmed by thousands of shekels in donations from strangers, totaling 50,000 shekels within three days. She described the emotional moment of receiving the support as a powerful embrace she had long needed. Tal has been the primary caregiver for her parents, who have faced severe mental health challenges and hospitalizations, including her mother’s forced hospitalization when Tal was 18.

Tal recounted growing up with the burden of her parents’ illnesses, attending psychiatric appointments regularly and hiding her pain while trying to bring joy to others. Recently, her mother’s condition worsened due to dementia, and her father underwent a heart catheterization, adding to her caregiving responsibilities. Despite receiving only 1,000 shekels monthly for nursing care, Tal has no other support and had to pause her own life to care for her parents.

The viral post was Tal’s first open plea for help, breaking years of silence about her family’s hardships. She emphasized the importance of asking for help and shared that many who reached out related to her story, highlighting the widespread impact of mental health issues in Israel. Tal also revealed her own struggles with depression and anxiety, including a suicide attempt in 2021.

Tal’s mother expressed deep love and gratitude for her daughter, calling her a "golden child." Tal’s message to others facing similar challenges is to seek support and not be ashamed. She hopes to open a center for people with mental health struggles and offers her contact information to those in need. Mental health support services such as ERAN and SAHAR are also available for assistance.
