IDF Blames Hezbollah for Ceasefire Breach, Orders Evacuation in Southern Lebanon Village

The story · English

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) accused Hezbollah of violating the ceasefire agreement and issued an urgent evacuation order for residents of the Lebanese village of Al-Mansouri on August 5, 2026. The IDF spokesperson, speaking in Arabic, warned civilians to immediately leave their homes and move at least 1,000 meters north to open areas for their safety, emphasizing that those near Hezbollah operatives or weapons risk their lives. The IDF stated it does not intend to harm civilians but must act forcefully against Hezbollah due to the ceasefire breach.

This development coincides with renewed Israel-Lebanon talks held in Rome under U.S. mediation, which began the day before and are expected to continue through August 6. The discussions focus on expanding a pilot zone in southern Lebanon aimed at gradually transferring control to the Lebanese army, disarming Hezbollah, and establishing a verification mechanism acceptable to both Israel and Beirut.

An Israeli source familiar with the talks described the negotiations as having a "positive dynamic." The talks involve professional teams addressing security coordination, land and maritime border issues, Hezbollah disarmament, and evaluation of pilot zones. Lebanon has requested the next pilot zone be established in either Bint Jbeil or Khiam, two key southern Lebanese locations, a decision that could affect the pace and nature of the process. However, Israel is reportedly reluctant to expand the pilot zones until the current one meets expectations.

The IDF's evacuation order and accusations against Hezbollah underscore ongoing tensions amid diplomatic efforts to stabilize the region and reduce Hezbollah's military presence in southern Lebanon.
