Itzik Boncel Vows Not to Vote for Likud if Eli Goldschmidt Is Reserved a Spot on List

Itzik Boncel, father of the late Staff Sergeant Amit Boncel who was killed in combat in the Gaza Strip, strongly criticized reports suggesting that former Knesset member Eli Goldschmidt might be reserved a place on the Likud party list for the upcoming elections. Boncel declared that if this move is realized, he will not vote for Likud for the first time in his life.

In a social media post, Boncel urged Likud leadership to reconsider, calling the rumors "absurd" and warning that his loyalty to the party has limits. He sharply condemned Goldschmidt's political past, labeling him a central figure among the Oslo Accords architects, including Rabin and Peres, who Boncel blamed for bringing "the most strategic and bloody disaster in Israel's history." Although Goldschmidt has expressed regret for his support of Oslo, Boncel argued that remorse does not qualify one for political rehabilitation, especially given the ongoing violence and terror attacks linked to the accords.

Boncel questioned the logic of forgiving political figures responsible for past disasters simply because they apologize, warning that it sets a dangerous precedent. He also criticized Goldschmidt's media presence on Channel 14, stating it does not legitimize the Oslo Accords or grant him entry into a party that opposed them at the time.

Concluding, Boncel expressed hope that these reports are unfounded rumors and that Likud has not lost its moral compass. However, he emphasized that if the party proceeds with reserving Goldschmidt a spot, he will cross his personal red line and withhold his vote from Likud for the first time ever.
