Israeli Organization 'Shluvot' Hosts Joyful Weeklong Summer Retreat for Women with Down Syndrome

The Israeli nonprofit 'Shluvot' recently held a memorable seven-day summer retreat for over 100 women aged 21 and above with Down syndrome. Operating under the slogan "Vacation for the girls, freedom for the parents," the organization provides year-round support, including weekly activities, shared Shabbat gatherings, and personal care, creating a warm, inclusive community for women living at home with their families.

The retreat began in northern Israel at the boutique Katron Hotel in the Jezreel Valley, where participants enjoyed high-quality accommodations, gourmet meals, and uplifting activities. The group then traveled to Jerusalem for the remainder of the week, where they were warmly welcomed by Deputy Mayor Rabbi Tzvika Cohen. He praised the organization's dedication, calling it a "holy mission" that brings joy and light to the participants and their families throughout the year.

During their stay in Jerusalem, the women experienced a rich program of events, including performances by leading singers, innovative activities, and continuous gourmet catering provided by various sponsors such as Goldis, Catering Kuritz, Hershy Fruchter, and "Siruta's Grill." The retreat also benefited from the generous support of Rabbi Chona Deitsch and the Rami Levy supermarket chain, as well as professional sound and amplification services donated by Yitzhak Biderman.

The week culminated in an emotional closing ceremony where the participants expressed their desire to return next year. The retreat not only offered the women a chance to bond, celebrate, and feel valued but also gave their parents a much-needed respite.
