Israeli Organization 'Shluvot' Hosts Uplifting Summer Retreat for Women with Down Syndrome and Their Families

The Israeli nonprofit 'Shluvot' recently concluded its annual summer retreat, hosting over 100 adult women with Down syndrome, aged 21 and above, who live with their parents. The week-long event, held under the slogan "Vacation for the Girls, Freedom for the Parents," took place in northern Israel at the boutique Katron Hotel in Hoshaya and continued with enriching activities in Jerusalem. The retreat featured diverse programs including excursions, musical performances by various artists, interactive workshops, and lavish meals, all designed to provide the participants with joy, a sense of belonging, and renewed energy.

The retreat also offered parents a rare opportunity for rest and rejuvenation, knowing their daughters were cared for by dedicated, professional volunteers. One mother emotionally shared that the experience gave her family renewed strength for the entire year, emphasizing the peace of mind gained from knowing her daughter was in loving hands. The women themselves expressed deep appreciation, with one participant saying she eagerly awaited the retreat all year and cherished the friendships and joyful moments it brought.

The leadership of 'Shluvot' expressed great satisfaction with the event's success, highlighting the smiles of the women and the calmness of their families as motivation to continue their work. They thanked hundreds of volunteers and service providers who contributed their time and energy, with special recognition for Rabbi Chona Deitsch, who helped recruit service providers.
