73 Orphaned Couples Face Wedding Day Challenges Without Family Support

מאת בשיתוף ועד הרבנים

The story · English

Seventy-three orphaned grooms and brides in Israel are preparing to marry, confronting their wedding day without the support of parents. Unlike other couples who walk down the aisle accompanied by their mothers and fathers, these young people face their special day burdened by grief and loneliness, having grown up without parental guidance or comfort. Despite overcoming significant hardships, they now struggle with financial difficulties, unable to afford essential wedding expenses such as bridal gowns, venue fees, or household items for their new homes.

In response, Rabbi Shragah Steinman, head of a prominent yeshiva, has issued a heartfelt appeal during the month of Av, urging the public to contribute to help these 73 orphaned couples. The rabbi emphasizes the mitzvah of bringing joy to orphans by supporting their weddings and requests a symbolic donation of just 10 shekels per orphaned couple. He promises blessings and protection for all donors and their families, especially during the challenging period of Bein Hazmanim.

The rabbinical committee has taken responsibility for coordinating assistance, aiming to ensure these couples can celebrate their weddings with dignity and joy despite their difficult circumstances. The call to action highlights the urgent need for community support to alleviate the emotional and financial burdens faced by these young couples as they embark on their new lives together.
