Israeli Initiative 'Meshayim' Launches High-Risk Investment Option for Child Wedding Funding

The story · English

The Israeli organization Meshayim, known for its innovative financial solutions for funding children's weddings, has announced a new high-risk investment track called "Meshayim Risk." This new option complements their existing programs, including the popular "Lobast" plan, which combines interest-free loans (gemachim) with capital market investments to generate returns while ensuring full repayment security at the time of the wedding.

The "Meshayim Risk" track offers savers access to a peer-to-peer lending model with continuous leverage within their investment portfolio, in partnership with major Israeli insurance companies and investment houses. The financial mechanism involves an initial capital deposit plus monthly savings, with periodic leveraging through loans up to the legal maximum. Loan repayments and portfolio management are funded from accumulated returns to maximize long-term savings.

Meshayim emphasizes that this high-risk route is intended only for investors with advanced financial literacy who can manage market risks, as the portfolio's liquidity at the wedding date is not guaranteed and may shrink due to market downturns or collateral calls. The track is explicitly not suitable for those saving with tithing funds (maaser), due to halachic restrictions on investing such money in the capital market without lending it to others.

To help families choose the best option, Meshayim plans to soon introduce simulators for personalized decision-making. The organization reiterates that the recommended and stable solution for most, especially yeshiva students and Torah scholars, remains the combined gemach-based track, which offers full security, complies with halacha, and is unaffected by market volatility. The new "Meshayim Risk" track is a niche offering for knowledgeable investors seeking leveraged exposure.

Meshayim also clarifies that the information provided is general and not investment advice, warning of significant risks including potential loss of principal, and advises consulting qualified financial professionals before investing.
