Brescia Football Club Officially Dissolved After 114 Years Amid Debt Crisis

The Italian football club Brescia Calcio, where Israeli player Tal Ben Haim once played, has been officially dissolved following a court ruling in Brescia on July 29, 2026. The club, with a 114-year history, faced severe financial difficulties, accumulating debts of approximately 20 million euros. These financial troubles led to penalties including an eight-point deduction and relegation, and eventually the club lost its license after failing to register for Serie C. Efforts by owner Massimo Cellino to rescue the club and negotiate debt settlements were rejected by the court, which declared Brescia in "complete bankruptcy" with no viable means to repay creditors.

Brescia holds a special place in Israeli football history as Tal Ben Haim became the first Israeli to play in Serie A when he joined the club in 1997, serving as captain in several matches over three seasons. Beyond this connection, Brescia was known for nurturing legendary players such as Andrea Pirlo and Sandro Tonali, hosting Roberto Baggio in the final years of his career, and featuring Pep Guardiola as a player before his coaching career.

Owner Massimo Cellino expressed bitterness over the court's decision, calling it "simply punishment" and lamenting that creditors would lose more than 5 million euros. The dissolution marks the end of a storied institution that was an integral part of Italian football for over a century.
