The story · English

Israeli Members of Knesset Erez Malul, Moshe Abutbul, and Yossi Tayeb conducted an extensive tour of the Mount of Olives, accompanied by a delegation from the Committee for the Protection of the Mount of Olives. The visit highlighted recent security and development initiatives at the ancient Jewish cemetery, emphasizing efforts to preserve its sanctity and enhance visitor safety.

The tour began at the new visitor center, currently under construction, where committee representatives presented comprehensive plans for the facility. The center will include spacious assembly and memorial halls, a large reception area for visitors, and a grand synagogue to serve the public. These upgrades aim to significantly improve the experience for the hundreds of thousands who visit the site annually to honor their ancestors.

During the visit, the delegation paused at the grave of MK Erez Malul's father, where they recited Psalms and the Mourner's Kaddish in a solemn ceremony. They also paid respects at the grave of former Prime Minister Menachem Begin. The group then proceeded to the Mount of Olives' central security hub, where they met with representatives from the Ministry of Housing and Construction, including Micha Marsh, Deputy Director of the Senior Emergency, Security, and Cyber Division. They received a detailed briefing on the national upgrade project, which features an advanced camera network, real-time data processing, and enhanced security patrols.

The MKs expressed admiration for the advanced technologies and significant investment in securing the site. Abraham and Menachem Lobinsky, heads of the Committee for the Protection of the Mount of Olives, stated that the MKs' visit marks an important milestone in their ongoing efforts to safeguard the site's sanctity, sovereignty, and security. They emphasized that the massive development, from the new visitor center to upgraded security systems, demonstrates the tangible results of dedicated work to preserve Israel's heritage.

Moshe Bruce, the committee's representative in the Holy Land, praised the MKs for their engagement and support. He noted that the combination of continuous security and modern infrastructure restoration is restoring the Mount of Olives' rightful status as a historic asset of the Jewish people. The partnership between public representatives and government ministries provides vital backing for continued development and protection of the site.
