Report: Russia is expanding NATO-border bases for 115,000 troops
Russia is rapidly refurbishing military facilities and building new bases along its border with NATO countries, according to a joint investigation by several Scandinavian media outlets. The effort is intended to create infrastructure capable of housing at least 115,000 soldiers.
The report says Russia is enlarging its garrisons near the Baltic states, Norway, and Finland. Satellite images examined for the investigation indicate that, once the war in Ukraine ends, Moscow would be able to deploy as many as 115,000 troops in these areas.
The findings suggest a broader buildup on NATO’s northern and northeastern frontier, with Russia using both renovated installations and new construction to expand its military presence near allied territory.
