Haggai Luber Condemns Democratic Party's Response to West Bank Terror Attack
Haggai Luber, father of the late Yehonatan Luber who was killed in combat in the Gaza Strip, sharply criticized members of the Democratic Party following the recent terror attack in the West Bank that claimed the life of Benyahu Malt. Luber expressed deep pain over what he described as waves of incitement and justification of the attack by some party figures. He stated his belief that if Arab friends were betrayed and endangered, like the kibbutz members on October 7, his son and others like him would risk their lives to protect them without hesitation.
Luber lamented that recent events have shattered his trust in the mutual responsibility expected from these groups. He voiced concern that if settlers were kidnapped or killed, some would stand by with excuses blaming the settlers themselves. He called this heartbreaking on a personal level. Responding to the Democratic Party's characterization of the attack as "settler rampage," Luber contrasted his son's heroism, who ran without hesitation to the south to protect his people, leaving behind a bereaved family.
He concluded with a pointed appeal to left-wing voters to choose at least rational leaders who support a two-state solution and mutual responsibility, including for settlers. Luber firmly stated that in his political vision, the Democratic Party would never be the decisive vote in government.
The Democratic Party had earlier described the attack as "settler rampage," a characterization that Luber strongly rejected given his son's sacrifice and the broader context of security and coexistence challenges in Israel.
