MK Boaz Bismuth Urges IDF Chief to Revise Rules of Engagement After Deadly West Bank Attack

MK Boaz Bismuth, chairman of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, has called on IDF Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir to change the army's rules of engagement. This demand follows a deadly attack in the West Bank's Samaria region, where two IDF soldiers, Captain Yuval Ezra and Benaya Malat, were killed. In a letter sent on Friday, Bismuth emphasized the need for a thorough operational investigation and a deep reassessment of the current situation on the ground. He criticized the existing protocols, stating that it is unacceptable for soldiers to fear legal repercussions more than the threat posed by attackers. Bismuth insisted on a renewed examination and revision of the rules of engagement to better protect soldiers in the field.
