US Pentagon Investigates Russian Aid to Iran in Precision Missile Attacks

The US Pentagon is investigating whether Russia has assisted Iran in enhancing the accuracy of its missiles and drones used against American targets. Officials fear that Russian technological support has contributed to Iran's ability to penetrate US air defenses with precise missile and drone strikes, some of which have killed American soldiers. These concerns have been growing within the Pentagon amid fears that Iran is receiving military aid from US adversaries like Russia and China.

US Secretary of Defense Pete Gossuth confirmed months ago that Moscow and Beijing provide some level of support to Tehran, though the extent remains classified. The investigation intensified after a recent Iranian attack reportedly bypassed US defenses and struck a weapons depot near a Jordanian airbase where three US soldiers had been killed days earlier. Intelligence sources are examining whether Russia helped Iran improve targeting capabilities, including attacks on sensitive US sites such as CIA facilities in the Gulf.

Reuters reported that US analysts have not reached definitive conclusions, but the effectiveness and precision of the strikes, along with broader Russian technical support, have fueled the inquiry. Retired Lieutenant General Keith Klog, former US envoy to Ukraine and Russia, believes Russia primarily aids Iran in targeting. Alex Plitsas, a senior fellow at the Atlantic Council and former Pentagon official, noted that Iran's battlefield improvements suggest adaptation based on lessons from previous conflicts, including missile exchanges with Israel.

Former President Donald Trump vowed retaliation for every American death caused by Iran, stating on social media that Iran would "pay many times over" for killing US soldiers. He directed Defense Secretary Gossuth, Joint Chiefs Chairman General Dan Cain, and military commanders to respond accordingly. Since July 11 last year, the US has conducted daily strikes aimed at curbing Iran's ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
