New iPhone App Antizuck Detects Nearby Smart Glasses Recording You
A new iPhone app called Antizuck has been developed to help users detect if people nearby are recording them using smart glasses. Created by Albert Pariente Cohen, the app scans Bluetooth signals to identify devices such as Meta glasses, Snap Spectacles, Meta Quest helmets, and Ray-Ban smart glasses. It costs a one-time fee of $2.99 with no subscription and operates entirely on the device without requiring registration or sending data externally.
In tests, Antizuck successfully detected a Meta Quest 3 helmet even in sleep mode but had limited success with Meta glasses, only recognizing them when powered on, charging, or actively paired. The app does not alert users when someone wearing smart glasses passes by, starts recording, or transfers files, only signaling when devices are turned on or charged nearby for several minutes, a scenario uncommon in public spaces.
The app also detects other Bluetooth devices like G2 glasses but does not flag them as recording devices since they lack cameras. Antizuck is part of a broader privacy concern movement against camera glasses, which some view as invasive, though these devices also have positive uses such as aiding visually impaired individuals or birdwatchers. While it is legal to film in public spaces, scanning for Bluetooth signals is also lawful, raising questions about the ethical use of such technologies.
