Omer Rahamim, Close to Smotrich, Prepares to Run in Religious Zionism Party Primaries
The Religious Zionism party is preparing for a potential new contender in its internal elections, as Omer Rahamim, CEO of the Yesha Council, is expected to run. Political sources within the party told i24 that Rahamim's associates have already begun mobilizing support, collecting official candidacy forms from party center members to secure his nomination. Rahamim is known to be close to party chairman and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, having served as his advisor in the past.
This development follows the departure of Minister Ofir Sofer and Knesset member Moshe Solomon from the party. Both were identified with opposition to the military draft law and had disagreements with Smotrich. Meanwhile, Smotrich and the Religious Zionism party have recently seen a recovery in polls, with some surveys showing the party gaining 5 to 6 seats.
No official response has yet been received from Rahamim's office regarding his candidacy plans.
