Ethiopian-Israeli Torah Students Achieve Record Enrollment in Yeshivas Nationwide
The Amalim Association, dedicated to supporting Torah students from the Ethiopian community in Israel, has reported a significant surge in enrollment for the upcoming Elul season. Under the guidance of leading rabbis and yeshiva heads, the organization has successfully placed dozens of outstanding Ethiopian-Israeli students in a wide range of small and large yeshivas across the country.
This third registration season concluded with unprecedented demand for the association's professional and religious guidance, making it the primary resource for Ethiopian parents and students entering the yeshiva world. Students were assigned to prominent small yeshivas such as Maor HaTorah, Tiferet HaLevi, Zichron Eliezer, and Nachalat Shmuel, as well as major institutions including Maor HaTorah, Da’at Chaim, Esh HaTalmud, Be’er HaTalmud, Rekhasim, Avnei Nezer, Brit Yaakov, Ohel Yosef Bnei Brak, Torat Avraham, Telz Stone, Tiferet Shlomo, and Keter Torah.
The placement process involved detailed coordination with yeshiva staff, led by Amalim heads Rabbis Netanel Peretz, Nissim Yavarkan, and Oded Tamna. Candidates underwent final exams in Jerusalem, assessed by prominent rabbis such as Rabbi Yishai Toledano of Da’at Chaim, Rabbi Tuvia Ben David of Avnei Nezer, Rabbi Israel Khoder of Zichron Eliezer, and Rabbi Daniel Shabtai, who praised the high scholastic level of the students.
The association expressed deep gratitude to its guidance team, including Rabbis Yosef Barkatz, Avraham Idan, Daniel Shabtai, David Ravivo, and Mordechai Malka, for their year-round support. A video documenting the journey highlights the historical aspirations, the pivotal rulings of Rabbi Ovadia Yosef that facilitated immigration, early integration challenges, and the current collaborative leadership driving this initiative.
This milestone reflects the growing integration and academic excellence of Ethiopian-Israeli Torah scholars within Israel’s religious educational system.
