Iran Suspends Commitments Under US Deal Amid Rising Military Tensions
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi announced on Saturday that Tehran has suspended all its obligations under the memorandum of understanding signed with the United States. This move is a direct response to recent American attacks. Iranian state news agency Mehr reported that the US struck twice in Hormozgan province in southeastern Iran on the same day. American officials in Washington stated their intention to punish Iran for failing to uphold the agreement.
The US military declared the end of the seventh wave of strikes against Iran overnight, which Iran retaliated against by targeting US allies in the region, including Saudi Arabia and Jordan. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed to have hit US forces in Kuwait and warned that countries hosting US troops should expect responses if their territories are used for attacks on Iran. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that the strikes targeted military logistics infrastructure, underground weapons storage, and naval capabilities. Kuwait reported damage to civilian facilities, including a power plant and a water desalination facility, which caught fire following the Iranian attack.
Shortly after, Bahrain's security forces intercepted several aerial targets launched into their airspace. Amid escalating tensions, the US Embassy in Jerusalem issued a warning to its citizens in Israel and abroad, advising caution regarding travel to the Middle East and Israel due to the potential for unpredictable escalation.
In Israel, authorities await US President Donald Trump's approval for the Israeli military to join the conflict. A senior IDF officer told Channel 13 that Iran does not want the Israeli Air Force to re-enter the fighting and that Iran is aware Israel is ready to resume hostilities pending Trump's authorization. Meanwhile, White House sources told Channel 13 that Trump is preparing for a possible significant escalation aimed at compelling Iran back to negotiations, requesting options for increased pressure that avoid a full-scale war.
