Yair Dori, an Israeli entrepreneur and former paratrooper wounded in military service, played a pivotal role in popularizing Argentine telenovelas in Israel during the 1990s. Starting in 1990, Dori took a risk by introducing the genre to Israeli cable TV, initially facing skepticism but eventually igniting a cultural phenomenon. His first major success was selling "La Mujer Misteriosa" (The Mysterious Woman) to Israeli cable, which opened the door for other Argentine shows including "Chiquititas," "Celeste," and "Rebelde Way." These telenovelas captivated hundreds of thousands of Israeli viewers daily, becoming a staple of family entertainment and even sparking concerns among news outlets about their impact on viewership.
Dori’s insight was that universal themes of love, family, jealousy, and social class resonated deeply with Israeli audiences, despite cultural differences.
