The story · English

A recent global survey conducted by the PEW Research Center revealed a significant shift in international public opinion, with citizens in 25 out of 36 countries expressing a more favorable view of China than the United States under Donald Trump's administration. The survey included responses from 42,000 individuals across 36 countries, asking participants to rate their positive or negative opinions of both nations.

The findings showed that many countries recorded record-high positive perceptions of China. Respondents were also asked about their views on the leaders of the two countries, with Chinese President Xi Jinping receiving higher approval ratings than former US President Donald Trump. Notably, the West Bank showed a 48 percent preference for China, while Pakistan exhibited the largest gap at 78 percent favoring China. Germany had the smallest margin, with a 6 percent preference for China.

Other countries where China was preferred over the US included Spain, Thailand, Greece, South Africa, the Netherlands, Sweden, Argentina, Australia, Turkey, Italy, and France. This marks a reversal from previous trends since 2002, when the US generally enjoyed more favorable global opinion than China. Currently, in 20 surveyed countries, China holds 46 percent positive support compared to 36 percent for the US, indicating a notable shift in global attitudes.
