Ukrainian Family Faces Tragedy in Israel After Brother Killed and Father Drowns

Vladimir quickly found work in construction after arriving in Israel and was highly respected for his skill and dedication. Vitaly was killed while fishing with his father-in-law on October 7; their mother had prevented Vladimir from joining, likely saving his life that day. The bond between Vitaly and Vladimir was very close, with Vitaly helping translate for their parents and supporting them emotionally.

After Vitaly’s death, Vladimir was deeply affected but tried to hide his pain. Katya recounted the tragic day her father drowned during a family outing to the beach. Despite rescue efforts, he could not be revived. Katya expressed her anguish that despite escaping war, her two closest family members died in Israel.

The family remains in Israel on tourist visas, which limits their rights and access to services. Katya explained that although her mother receives a monthly allowance due to Vitaly’s death, the state has not granted the parents official status or assistance. They have struggled with healthcare access and financial support, relying on friends for help. Katya emphasized their gratitude to Israel for accepting them but lamented the lack of formal recognition and support despite their long stay and contributions.
