Religious Zionism Faction Splits in Givat Shmuel City Council

In Givat Shmuel, the Religious Zionism faction in the city council is experiencing a split following council member Raz Schreiber's announcement of his resignation from the municipal coalition. However, the faction's other representative, Shmulik Meirovitz, who holds the portfolio for public works and environmental quality, declared he will remain in the coalition and continue his work from within the decision-making framework. Meirovitz stated that Schreiber's resignation was made without consulting him and does not represent his views. He emphasized that the proper way to serve the public is from inside the coalition and pledged to keep advancing key issues.

Meirovitz plans to continue focusing on improving the city's appearance, environmental quality, and public space development. Additionally, he intends to address significant matters for the religious community in Givat Shmuel, including appointing a city rabbi, regulating relations and cooperation between the municipality and the Bnei Akiva yeshiva, and expanding services for single residents. He stressed the importance of leading efforts to enhance residents' quality of life.

Schreiber's departure followed a series of disagreements, raising concerns about a potential political crisis in the city council. Nonetheless, Meirovitz's commitment to stay in the coalition suggests that, at least for now, the city leadership maintains stability with one of the two Religious Zionism representatives continuing to participate in the municipal coalition.
