The story · English

Ido Dagan made history by winning the European Under-23 Track Cycling Championship in Cottbus, Germany, becoming the first Israeli to claim a European title in track cycling. The victory came in the points race, a tactical endurance event spanning 25 kilometers, where Dagan skillfully accumulated points through intermediate sprints and a lap gain, finishing with 29 points. This gold medal followed his earlier silver in the scratch race at the same championship.

Dagan's strategic approach involved winning the sixth sprint and securing third place at the finish line, along with overtaking the entire peloton to earn the highest points. He finished four points ahead of German Leon Rasag in second place and six points ahead of Norwegian Daniel Kartbol in third. The Israeli delegation also celebrated other notable performances, including Aviv Donski's second-place finish and Saar Idan's participation.

The medal ceremony was a poignant moment for the Israeli team, with the Israeli national anthem played in the arena, highlighting the significance of this achievement for Israeli cycling. This success adds to a series of strong results for Israel at the event and marks a milestone in the country's cycling history.
