Early Sunday morning, Hamidreza Dehqan, an officer in the Iranian Navy's air defense unit, was killed during a series of targeted US military airstrikes in the southern Iranian province of Jask. Official Iranian statements reported that Dehqan died while on an operational mission attempting to return fire against attacking aircraft. Jask province, located on the coast of the Gulf of Oman, is a highly strategic area housing key naval bases of both the Iranian military and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, controlling vital international shipping routes and the gateway to the Persian Gulf.

The US strikes reportedly targeted around 90 sites across Iran overnight, marking the largest such operation since the ceasefire agreement between the two countries.
