Mossi Raz and Avi Dabush Win Appeal to Run in Democrats Party Primaries Under Meretz Quota

Former Knesset member Mossi Raz announced on Saturday that the Democrats party court accepted the appeal he and social activist Avi Dabush filed against the party's election committee decision. The ruling allows them to run in the reserved representation slot allocated for candidates joining from Meretz. Raz shared the news on Twitter, expressing gratitude to their lawyer and confirming their eligibility to compete under the Meretz quota.

This development concludes an internal party dispute that began last month when the Democrats election committee barred five primary candidates from running under the Meretz reserved slots due to technicalities. The committee ruled that the candidates failed to meet the union agreement conditions, which required paying Meretz membership fees in 2022, 2023, or 2024 and submitting a special form within nine months of joining.

As a result, Raz and Dabush, both longtime Meretz members, were forced to run on the general list. Raz, a former Meretz secretary-general and multiple-term Knesset member, strongly criticized the committee's decision, accusing it of disregarding his 30 years of activism and insulting thousands of Meretz and Democrats members. The court's acceptance of their appeal reverses this exclusion and allows them to participate under the reserved Meretz slots in the upcoming primaries.
